چکیده

Most diffraction theories for random rough surfaces are based on the assumption of a Gaussian height distribution. In this paper, a diffraction theory for non-Gaussian rough surfaces is developed and the relationship between the roughness parameters and the diffraction characteristics is explored. It is shown that a non-Gaussian rough surface can dramatically alter the diffraction for (k'w) @1, where k' is the momentum transfer perpendicular to the surface and w is the interface width. However, for (k'w) !1, it is possible to determine all the roughness parameters including the interface width, lateral correlation length, and the roughness exponent without specifying the surface height distribution. @S0163-1829~97!06116-X#

Speckle statistics of electromagnetic waves scattered from perfectly conducting random rough surfaces

By means of the extinction-theorem method, previously reported by J. M. Soto-Crespo and M. Nieto-Vesperinas [J. Opt. Soc. Am. A 6, 367 (1989)], the intensity statistics of the s-polarized electromagnetic field scattered from randomly rough, perfectly conducting, one-dimensional surfaces are studied in the case of surface transverse correlation lengths larger than the wavelength. In particular, ...

Scattering in Room Acoustics and the Related Activities in ISO and AES

The scattering coefficient of a diffusing surface accounts for the part of sound power which is “non-specularly” reflected. This coefficient is an essential parameter for the description of walls and surfaces in room acoustics problems. In this paper, the scattering coefficient of random rough surfaces is calculated from the complete scattered sound pressure distribution. This distribution is e...

Investigation on the Scattering Characteristics of Gaussian Beam from Two Dimensional Dielectric Rough Surfaces Based on the Kirchhoff Approximation

The scattering characteristic of paraxial gaussian beam from two dimensional dielectric rough surfaces is studied in this paper. The modification of the Kirchhoff approximation theory for rough surface scattering by an incident gaussian beam instead of a plane wave are developed based on conventional Kirchhoff scattering theory and plane wave spectrum expansion method. The coherent and incohere...

Diffraction from anisotropic random rough surfaces

The diffraction beam from an anisotropic, random, rough surface is investigated. Two kinds of anisotropic surfaces with either a correlation-length anisotropy or a scaling anisotropy are considered. For the correlationlength anisotropic surface with an isotropic scaling, the shape of the diffraction beam directly reflects the surface anisotropy under any diffraction condition. However, for the ...

Diffraction from stepped surfaces in thermal equilibrium

We have performed Monte Carlo simulations of the diffraction from simple two-dimensional models of vicinal surfaces in order to aid interpretation of measured diffraction profiles. At low temperature, we find the sharp diffraction features predicted from the analogy of stepped surfaces with two-dimensional incommensurate phases. These sharp features vanish only near the roughening temperature o...
